halloween howdy

we don’t really do halloween, but there was a fair on up at the primary school el’s going to next year, so she put on a witchy hat and off we went.

They had …

… and food and drink and a flea market and she was pretty well stoked, especially since she also scored some “candy” from the lolly stall. She wasn’t quite so keen on giving away lollies to the 2 ToTers we had … give lollies AWAY? Are you MAD, woman?

“mum. Mum! Take a photo of my beautiful plait Nana made. MUM!”

“you’re a silly mama, aren’t you”

“okay that’s enough photos”

“no more, mama, go away”

“I said no more”

“Right, I’m not talking to you any more until you say SORRY”

“You have to stop when I say stop! That’s not very nice, you have to LISTEN TO ME. You’re a naughty mama. I’m just not happy with you.”

A story about a frog, a prince, a princess and …

Eleanor came home with a storybook yesterday. During rollcall yesterday they made up a round-robin story. Sally printed everyone’s contribution out a line to a page & stapled them together to make a book, one copy for each child, and the kids illustrated them. Sally was telling me this morning that some kids are really into it and some kids just scribble something & call it a frog to get it over with, & that Eleanor takes the cake for into it. “3 hours later” (quite probably not an exaggeration heh) she’d done 3 double-page illustrations, so she’ll have to do the rest at home. Here they are:

thought I’d share a drawing el did a month or two ago - I just found it flipping through my sketchbook. The peculiar object on the right of the page is a surprisingly accurate remote control for the DVD player.

Rob & CJ were down last weekend, and we got some pics of them together. There’s also a couple of El & Zara at the shops, and a couple of El saying goodbye to Ross & Lisa as they headed off on their big around-oz trip.

zara louise

sorry I’ve been slack on the updates. Shows to get ready for, then I was sick, then el got impetigo and the measles (she’s all better now, but !?!!), yada etc & so on. I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned the dog who comes to visit us occasionally; she’s been dropping in every now & then for a couple of years, and as far as Eleanor is concerned the dog is hers. Well, now the dog sort of is hers - the owner came looking for her last week, and in the course of our conversation said he was looking for a home because a) she keeps breaking out while he’s at work because she’s desperate for company, and then won’t go home because she knows he’s just going to try harder to dogproof his fences, and b) he wants to go travelling anyway. So for at least the time being she’s living at nana & grandad’s house, until & unless we find a new house with a proper fenced yard.

the name the dog answers to is Zara, but Eleanor wants to call her Louise (how her friend Lou-Lou feels about that idea I don’t know). I told her she can call her Louise if she wishes, but the dog will continue to answer to Zara … when she feels so inclined, at least.

Black Cat & the pook

the poor ancient cat is cold enough to put up with being manhandled (preschoolerhandled?) purely because there are blankets and warmth involved. The upside for me is that it seems to calm el down enough to sleep as well …
